write on, girls!

I really love and respect CALYX, the journal of women's literature. I was cruising their website fairly recently and saw this rather shocking info:

apparently in a recent survey, women's writing only made up 25% of all that put out by small press publishing companies (independent or mom and pop presses as compared to the big houses like random house or etc)

women writers only contribute about 10% of all the writing showing up in literary anthologies

on the 1998 Modern Library List (i don't know how often that list comes out) there were only EIGHT women among the "100 best writers of the 20th Century."

huh. I guess we've got a long way to go, Baby. for one thing, we can support CALYX as a venue and supportive environment for women writers: http://www.calyxpress.org/journal.html
